Enzymes - Unit 3 honors bio
Enzymes
Proteins
Denaturation is when an enzyme loses shape. Caused by heat and pH levels
Lock and key model : how perfectly the enzyme (key) fits into the substrate (lock)
Inhibitor : a molecule that prevents another molecule from an ongoing reaction
Competitive : binds to active site and prevents the substrate from binding
Noncompetitive : Binds to a different site. Substrate binds but it causes other changes in the reaction
Coenzymes: capture, transfer, and move energy around the cell
Ex: ATP, GTP, NADH, FADH2, and NADPH
Cofactor: non-protein chemical compound that tightly and loosely binds with an enzyme or other protein molecules
