General Information
IFC Recruitment is a set of formal events for potential new members to meet, socialize, and learn about different fraternities.
Rush activities emphasize brotherhood and serve as an educational experience.
Participation is voluntary and does not obligate you to pledge any fraternity.
Provides a chance to connect with peers and build long-lasting friendships.
Open House
The initial round; aim to visit many houses.
Spend a few minutes at each to introduce yourself and get on contact lists.
Aim for at least 5 new houses each night for a diverse experience.
First Round
More individualized events giving insight into house members.
Continue visiting multiple houses; focus on learning about individuals rather than perfection.
Second Round
Smaller and more personal; prioritize houses of interest.
Best chance to understand chapter culture and assess personal fit.
Third Round
Highly personal; focus on favorite houses.
Includes intimate settings (e.g., dinners) for deeper conversations.
Final Hours
Last chance to express interest in bids.
Communicate preferences as follows:
Third Hour (7-8 PM): Notify third-choice house.
Second Hour (8-9 PM): Inform second-choice house in person.
Final Hour (9-10 PM): Visit the house you most want a bid from at around 9 PM.
Bid Day
Bids will be extended to your dorm on January 27, 2024, with next steps communicated.
Must accept bids through Campus Director by 6 PM on the same day.
Unrecognized fraternities (e.g., “KA” and “Club 128/ fka FIJI”) are not affiliated with IFC or the University.
Past severe hazing behaviors have led to their termination, and rushing or associating with them is strongly discouraged.
Space and Pace
Alternate between water and alcoholic beverages.
Eat Before Drinking
Consuming food, particularly protein, helps slow alcohol absorption.
Plan Arrivals and Departures
Protect boundaries by arriving late or leaving early to maintain limits.
Avoid Mixing Substances
Mixed substances can have unpredictable effects.
Know What You Consume
Monitor drink preparation and avoid unknown substances, particularly cannabis.
Stick to Limits
Align decisions with personal health and boundaries for safety.
Be aware of PUBS symptoms (puking while passed out, unresponsive, slow/shallow breathing, clammy/cold skin) indicating alcohol poisoning.
Call 911 immediately if symptoms are observed; medical amnesty encourages seeking help without fear of punishment.
Applications for fraternity dues scholarships are open until January 16, 2024, at 11:59 PM.
Recipients notified by noon on bid day, contingent upon bid acceptance.
Priority given to first-time PNMs demonstrating financial need.
