  • You can keep a neutral face but be screaming inside

  • Using a strategy to feel or look better on the inside

  • How people alleviate emotions

  • Regulating negative emotions that cause destruction in our lives


  • Relief from negative emotions when you’re not using drugs, alcohol…



  • Let it go

    • Metaphor

    • The idea of catharsis - Freud

      • You gotta get the emotions out or they are going to destroy you from the inside, don’t bottle the emotions

      • You can engage in emotion regulation by letting them out

      • Though there isn’t much research that this will make you feel better after expressing your emotions


  • Crying can elicit social support
