Moles Note - Lesson

The balanced chemical equation = relationship of the reactants and products

  • Atoms → particle of matter that defines an element, they are a nucleus surrounded by 1 or more electrons (O)

  • Molecules → they are the atoms that are joined together with bonds (O2)

1 MOL = 6.22×1023 → created by Avogadro

This is the same number of entitles (Atoms or Molecule…) as there are in exactly 12g of carbon-12 (atoms)

Must use the equations:

n=m/M

  • n= moles

  • m=mass in grams

  • M = molecular mass (# of atoms x what the number is on the periodic table)

n= N/NA

  • N = number of entitles (If you have a molecule you calculate with this then if it asks for atoms you multiple what you get by the number of atoms in each molecule)

  • NA = Always the 6.022×1023

Think about this as something that is like figure out a dozen and just use the equations
