Mt Tarawera eruption process

• started - 10th of June 1886 just after midnight
• many earthquakes were felt in the area
• 1:30 am the northern most peak (wahanga) had erupted
• 2:00 am a large crack appeared in the ground that ran from Mt Tarawera to the current Waimangu Valley
• 2:30 am the southern most peak (tarawera) started erupting and a large lava column had sprouted in Waimangu Valley
• 3:30 am Lake Rotomahana became an eruption site with a large lava column that when collapes destroyed the pink and white terraces and created the new shape of the lake
• at around 6:00 am the entire volcanism process had stopped and
