Sexual and asexual reproduction

meiosis leads to non-identical cells being formed.

mitosis leads to identical cells being formed.

Gametes are where there are only one type of cell where the chromosomes are not paired.

Gamete cell are made through the process of meiosis.

Human gamete cells: Sperm ,egg

Flower cells: Pollen, egg

Sexual reproduction involves the fusion of male and female gametes (fertilisation)

There is therefore a mix in genetic information from the male and the female parents.

This leads to a variety in offspring

Asexual reproduction involves only one parent and no fusion of gametes.

There is no mixing of genetic information.

This leads to genetically identical offspring (clones). Only mitosis is involved.
