Acceleration- Newtons 2nd law

  • F=m x a

  • acceleration = change in velocity / time

  • light gate to measure velocity of car, stopwatch for time

  1. Release car from fixed point on slope- attache to string and pulley

  2. Measure time taken between two points using stopwatch

  3. Measure change in velocity between two points using light gates

  4. To find acceleration, use equation

  5. Add mass to end of string from the car, repeat by taking mass of car and putting it on pulley, repeat (mass of the system must be conserved)

  6. Straight line through origin- direct proportion of graph

  1. mass is inversely proportional to acceleration- change mass on car, not force

  2. same slope angle, same distance between light gates
