  • MINUTE: The sign minute is generally done on the palm. You “tick” the right “index finger” handshape forward as if it were the minute hand on a clock. Athough the finger does move, the movement is from the wrist, not the finger. Note: This sign can also mean “moment” or “a second”

 

  • WANT: The want sign looks like you are pulling something toward you. Place your hands out, with hands open and palms facing up, making your hands bent a little into a claw shape. Then pull both your hands toward you.

   

 

  • FLOOR Sign: Floor is signed by taking both hands flat with palms facing the ground and thumbgs touching, then moving the hands apart. zthe sign looks like you are miming an imaginary floor.

  • ASL Sign NOW: TO sign “NOW”, form both hands into the ASL letter Y sign, with your thumb and pinkie fingers extended and your three middle fingers curled in on each hand. Starting with your hands up, bring then down to your hip level. Now is signed just like today.

  1. How do we change the tense of verbs in ASL?
    • You can change the tense of verbs in ASL by: signing the verb + FINISH. If you start your ASL sentence with TIME in the past tense (last week, yesterday, a month ago, last year, recently, before), then automatically, all of the verbs that follow will become past tense. You can also add BEFORE, NOW, and FUTURE.

Number Systems

  • Identity Numbers
    • What are identity numbers?: Identity numbers are numbers that are a part of a title; when discussing the number it. They are all produced palm-out. You hold and shake the identity numbers slightly.
  • Ordinal Numbers
    • What are ordinal numbers used to show?: Ordinal Numbers are used to show rank/order.
    • Ordinal Numbers 1-9: Twist the ordinal numbers 1-9
    • Ordinal Numbers 10-20: Add “th” ending to numbers 10-20
    • Ordinal Numbers 21+: Twist the second gisit in ordinal numbers 21 and up
    • Ordinal Numbers multiples of ten: Add “th” ending to ordinal numbers that are multiples of ten
