how the media re-presents reality.

implies the original subject has a singular fixed meaning against which accuracy can be measured.

the media gives meaning to text - Brexit, whether it is good or bad and the audience will follow the beliefs of the news they consume.


media representations they are reflections of things that already have meaning. they are the meaning makers of things that happen in reality.

mass media has power over the consumers with how they feel over representations and subjects.

most people in power are white heterosexual men so their beliefs are typically the stereotypes that are shared e.g. gay people, women, black people.

can narrow people’s perceptions of groups and people, they becomes naturalised and we stop questioning e.g. black people are terrorists.

audiences have reject ideas if they disagree but majority of people believe.

audience should interrogate a text and see who made the text and why.
