Simulation Steps

IV Infusion

A ) Check order and allergies

B) Calculate dosage for ordered med

C) Identify patient

D ) Wash hands/ Don gloves

E) Prepare infusion bag/ label I V bag

F) Spike and prime tubing

G) Set up pump and start infusion

IV Push Med Calculations

A ) Check order/ allergies

B) Calculate dosage and amount for ordered med

C) Draw up ordered dose

D) Identify patient

D ) Wash hands/ Don gloves

E ) Scrub the hub or use orange alcohol caps

F) Assess I V patency/ Assess I V site

G ) Flush medlock

H ) Administer med over a minute or recommended time on med sheet

I) Flush medlock

Central Line Dressing Change

A) Identify patient

B ) Review date o f next change and allergies

C) Retrieve Central Line dressing kit

D) Wash hands

E ) Don Clean gloves and open kit

F) Put on mask and patient mask

G) Begin taking off old dressing (making sure to secure i n place with finger)

H ) Throw away old dressing and gloves

I ) Sanitize hands

J) Don Sterile gloves

K) Cleanse Central line from center outward

L ) Place bio patch

M) Apply new dressing with signature and date
