Approaches

Learning approach

  1. We learn through social learning, operant conditioning, and classical conditioning. These processes involve stimulus response.

  2. Each life begins as a blank slate any observable changes in behaviour occur due to interactions with the external environment.

Social approach

  1. Behaviour cognitions and emotions are influenced by the actual imagined or implied presence of others.

  2. Behaviour, cognitions, and emotions are influenced by social contexts, groups and environments.

Biological approach

  1. Behaviour, cognitions, and emotions can be explained in terms of the workings of the brain and the effect of hormones, genetics, and evolution.

  2. Similarities and differences between people can be understood in terms of biological factors and their interaction with other factors.

Cognitive approach

  1. There are similarities in the way in which humans and computers process information. This is seen in the input process output cycle.

  2. There are individual differences in cognitive processes like language, thinking, attention, and memory which explains our differing behaviour and emotions.
