Definition of Organization

  • General Definition:

Brief History of Philippine Military Organization

Philippines in Ancient Times
  • Barangay: Basic unit of government.
  • Chieftain: Ruler of barangay with executive, legislative, and judicial powers, serving as the supreme commander in war.
Evolution of Armed Forces
  • Philippine Army: Founded on March 22, 1897; first Captain General elected during the Tejeros Convention was Artemio Ricarte.
  • Philippine Navy: Established on May 20, 1898; the first ship was a small pinnace from the Spanish Navy, named Magdalo.
  • Philippine Air Force: Originated in the Philippine Army Air Corps (1935) and became a separate branch on July 1, 1947.
