  • Dynamics: How loud or soft the music is.

  • Timbre: The unique sound quality of an instrument or voice.

  • Texture: The layers of sound, indicating density.

  • Harmony: Instruments supporting the melody with chords.

  • Rhythm: The arrangement of notes differing in length.

  • Melody: A series of pitches that forms a tune.

  • Form: The order and arrangement of the parts of the music.

Rhythm and Meter

  • Rhythm: Arrangement of notes of different lengths; binds all music elements together.

  • It defines speed and connection of notes.

    • Sparse (few instruments) or thick (many instruments).

Types of Textures

  • Monophonic: Single melody.

  • Homophonic: Melody with accompaniment.

  • Polyphonic: Multiple melodies.

  • Heterophonic: Variations of one melody.

Timbre

  • Unique sound quality, distinguishing different instruments.

Tonality

  • Overall sound quality; consonant (pleasant) vs dissonant (unpleasant).

  • May be in major or minor keys.
