Father Gapon established Assembly of the Russian Factory and Mill Workers to promote workers rights in 1903
Went on strike and drafted petition to the czar because were struggling from social inequalities posed by laissez-faire capitalism
Led workers and members of the assembly to march on the palace to deliver the petition
Father Gapon had already notified the authorities of the petition and the march
Approx. 10000 soldiers were placed around the palace
Then they began firing on the peaceful protesters
Czar Nicholas II was not in the palace, and had not ordered his soldiers to fire, but he was blamed anyways
As a result, protests popped up around the country which eventually led to the Russian Revolution
