Neolithic Revolution

• 10,000 years ago people began to change from

hunter-gatherers to producers of food.

• Two important developments brought this change:

– People learned how to grow food

– People learned how to herd animals

• These advancements are called the Neolithic

Revolution.

• “Neo”= New

• “lithic”= stone

• New Stone Age

Results of the Neolithic Revolution

• As people no longer

needed to move to find

food, they began to build

permanent homes.

• Agriculture created a

dependable source of

food allowing people to

live a longer, healthier

life.

Results of the Neolithic Revolution

• As the population grew, villages began to grow

and a fixed way of life was established.
