Evolution and Dating

Evolution

  • Evolution is any change in the genetic traits in a population over many generations including all the changes in characteristics and diversity of life that occur throughout time.
  • For example, as beetles evolve the genetic trait of their colour could change.

Genetic Variation is necessary for a species to evolve

  • population is a group of organisms of the same species living in the same place.
  • The individuals in a population need to belong to the same species. But they also need to live in the same area to interact and breed with each other.
  • There must be genetic differences between the members of the species so that organisms will be more successful than others.
  • Genetic diversity plays a role in safeguarding a species from extinction when the environment changes.
