Sentence types
simple- 1 independent clause (complete sentence) watch out for introductory phrases that might trick you into thinking they are a dependent clause (incomplete sentence)
a telegraphic sentence is a simple sentence that is 5 words or less.
compound- 2 independent clauses, joined together by either a semicolon or a comma + a fanboy- also known as a coordinating sentence
complex- 1 independent clause with 1 dependent clause- also known as a subordinating sentence—> one sentence is usually more important than the other, usually the independent clause.
compound-complex- contains 2 independent clauses and at least one dependent clause
