- Advised to time recordings to measure teacher-to-student talk ratio.
- Elicit more from students instead of telling.
- Vocabulary Teaching: Showing each word separately, meaning first, then pronunciation.
*Nikki : Just as a general rule
Yes. Yes. And, actually, what you might consider doing, if you can record on your computer yourself somehow, then record it and watch and just measure the time that you talk and they took. And because I think in your case, there's there was too much. Uh-huh.That's the main that's the main that's the main No. Thank you.
Then you should ask Fran if your English was always correct during the lesson because I think there were some mistakes. But because I'm not an active English speaker Yeah.
Yeah. I can I don't want to correct Okay? Because because I do think you've made some. Okay. So ask her. But but one thing to please remember, don't say peaceful
See, listen to my pronunciation. Is it am I right or not? Peaceful. No. Peace.Peaceful. Peaceful. Peace. Peace. Oh.Make make the e. Make the sound e long. E long. Oh, okay. I got it.
Okay. Peaceful. Peaceful. Peaceful. Yes.Oh, okay. Thank you. It was so important. Thank you very much. You very much.Yeah. Don't make the s long. Oh, yeah. Not not the e long. Yeah.I got it. I got it. No. Thank you. It was so important.
Thank you for mentioning. It's not peaceful. It's peaceful. Yeah.Yes.Yes. Okay. Thank you. That's very, very important. Yeah.Yeah. Very important. Thank you, Yvon. This this is a very Yes. Yes.Yes Yuvul, I just wanna tell you that the exercise I made was, if I'm not mistaken, four a, four b, four c. It was the same like you or I will tell you in a second. I will tell you again. No That's I I will I will I will tell you later because now we need to go back. Yeah. Okay. Because I wanna know what was the wrong, and I I will not repeat that again. I think yeah.
I don't know. I'll have I'll have to see I'll have to see to see what's in my in my and I will I will send you I will send you in WhatsApp which which exercise I prepared for my slides, then you will give me confirm that it was same like you or not. Okay? Yes. And, yeah, I don't need to speak to the telephone with you after that.
I just wanted to mention these issues. Unfortunately, we have enough time to speak here. So thank you for your comments. Really helpful. And, yeah, I try my best. You know, I try my best to give them the best lesson. You know? Yeah. I think the students at the end of enjoy the lesson, if I if I'm not mistaken. I think they enjoy that.
When I heard them speak, I they spoke about the topic. So I think they enjoyed the they enjoyed they were involved. They didn't speak about you know, when you're sometime in break room, they go and talk about other things. No. But it is Yeah.Person, I think they also. Yeah. Yeah.
And thanks thanks friends active thanks friends intention to give me more time at the end because I wanted to make breakout rooms. The students were late. So I ran out of time at the end, but friend gave me additional time so I could be able to wrap up those those words that I taught them to keep their to keep them fit in their mind.
So it really works when I wrap up those words. US Students, which words we've learned today? For example, boring, crowded, or peaceful or yeah. And said, it was so helpful. Yeah.Good. So we come back. Yeah? Yeah. Yeah. But but you are much more okay. Actually, we can ask Fran because the others didn't come back in. Fran, can you hear us? Yes. Ask me now.Yeah. I was under the impression that Patrick repeated my tasks from Tuesday. Yeah. Well, wasn't he? So I was a bit confused about what's happening in them, and I I I like I'm Yeah.
Hope that the students paid attention to mine, and so they were also a bit confused. I think they had a little bit of attention or experience there. Yeah. So, Patrick, what's your take on this? Yeah. You know, I just prepared the assignment four a, four b, four c, if I'm not mistaken. And I don't know if it was parallel to you all or or What page number did you do? I think you took the wrong page number maybe. I don't think so, but I will check. But I don't think so.
I just followed my assignment, and I didn't know that you all it's a little similar to Yuval maybe. Yeah. Okay. As far as the students were concerned, I think they enjoyed the lesson, and it wasn't a big issue. But I think they did the material was repeated.I think perhaps you you talk from a different page than the one that was allocated. But in terms of your assessment, I decided to assess you anyway because it was too late for you to plan a whole different lesson. And there's no need for me to be unkind and cause you to not be able to meet criteria in that way. So I took that decision yesterday when I saw your lesson plan. Okay. And I contacted Barbara and Joe and sought their advice as well, and they agreed with me that we could be kind and assess that lesson. Thank you.Okay? But I do believe that the material allocated was a different page and that you took the exercise numbers to to mean something different because of the page number. What I don't want to do is confuse you now by backtracking over that.
So I prefer you to do is look at carefully at the email I sent you next time and go from the page number that I show you. Okay? Sure. Sure? Okay.Alright. So that was a question about materials. Are there any other questions? Nothing you want to ask me? No.Okay. So in that case, can you have a look at the chat and tell me if you can see two links posted in the chat? No? No. I'll just repost them, I think, because we were in breakout rooms. You know? We couldn't see them. So the first link is a link to the video about how to complete stage two progress record. Can you copy that link right now, please, so that I can be sure that you all have it? Yep.So I went after the last lesson. I saw that there was a whole video of how to hit the sum to five, but I thought it was more useful to just give you the bit that's about the stage two record. So watch that video before t p four because who's the first teacher on Tuesday? So you've really I it's I think it's Nikki. I think it's Nikki this time.Yeah. So, Nikki, you'll teach for forty five minutes. And after the forty five minutes, you'll switch off your camera, do your self evaluation, fill in your stage two progress record, and you'll have your stage two tutorial straight after lesson.Alright. Well, you'll be doing that documentation whilst I'm doing the tutorial with Nikki, and then you and I will have our tutorial.I've sent an email about it, so hopefully, you'll be ready. K. Patrick and Vita, you'll get the same email after t p today explaining what you have to do. But for now, that is the link to the video. Okay? The second message in the chat box is the link to the lesson plan that we use from TP four.Okay? Lesson plan from TP four, the templates are a little different for language lessons. Okay? Skills lessons, reading, listening, speaking, writing lessons, they stay on the same template as before. But language lessons will be on this new template. Can you copy the link there? We'll have a look together at them now so that then they'll be familiar for you. Let's look first of all at the lesson plan. What can you see on your screen? Not much. Can you see a lesson plan? No.Okay. So can you go follow that link then and open that lesson plan on your screen instead? So follow the second link. You should be able to open the lesson plan for two p four. Yeah. Can you access it? Yeah?Yeah. Okay. K. So make a note for yourself. That lesson plan template is if you have a language lesson. That means if you're teaching grammar or vocabulary, you'll use that lesson plan template. And make a note for yourself for skills lessons. Reading, writing, listening, speaking, we'll continue to use the TP one to three template. I'm trying to see how I download it. Can you take it from the chat, maybe?Would that be easier? I can put a copy into the chat. Yeah. I download it. Lesson plan. But I download it from the chat box. No. That's alright. Yeah. I can see. Or maybe you can download it from the chat box if that's easier. Oh, it's alright. It's all right. You will sorry. I sent you a message on WhatsApp later. Please check it. Thank you.I want to know if you can see roles and responsibilities of candidate settings and Cambridge assessment English on your screen. Yes.Yeah.Yes? Okay. I'm sharing a CELTA five document so that we can have a quick look together about what to do with the stage two. K? Patrick Yes.
This is your CELTA five document that I have opened. Okay? Is that alright if I show it to everyone to so that we can see what we have to do next? Okay. No worries.Okay. Thank you. Okay. So as usual, you've got the beginning of the document. You've already after stage one, you've already filled in all of this information. If you didn't know all the names, I've quickly filled them in for you. Okay? So that's not something to worry about. And I also checked after stage one that you filled in all the other parts. So if I haven't asked you to do something in the comments, it means it's all up to date so far.Okay? So we've got the assessment of written work. I'm about to return assignment one to you. Okay? So that will be available for you shortly.
When you have it back, you need to read the comments and fill in the the record of assessed written work. Okay? There's a little table here. Okay. Got the record of attendance. If you've been to everything so far, then just leave that. If you've missed anything, if you've been late for any sessions or you've missed any work, complete this table before the stage two tutorial. This one is your record of observations. So you're filling that in as you go along, which is great to see. You don't need these signatures here.So this is fine for this column to be blank. And record of your assessed teaching practice. So fill in your t p three lesson here and write my assessment on it. Okay? And after t p four, before the stage two two four tutorial, fill in this the t p four record as well.K? So finish teaching after forty five minutes. Fill in this record. Here's where you write out your written assignment.
So the first lesson is the skills assignment. So you're gonna write yes here, pass on first submission. Or if you've got a resubmission, don't write anything here yet. And then you'll sign it to to show that it's your own work. You fill this in as you go along, not all at the end.Okay? So as soon as you have assignment one, the skills assignment, fill in this record. Assignment one, there's one resubmission for a very small thing, which should only take, I hope, five minutes to do. It's because the person forgot to write the names of the book and the writer at the end of the assignment. You have to give a reference list. Okay?So that resubmission is that one small thing. Don't have to rewrite the whole thing. Do not worry if you have a resubmit. K? And there is an assignment that are four grades.Right? There is s and s plus and two others. Assignments are the assignments are pass or pass on second second submission or fail. Oh, okay. Yeah. There are no gradings for assignments. Okay. Gotcha. And then stage one progress record, you've already completed this. You've already signed. Here, you need to highlight one, agreely or don't agree. If you don't agree, please contact me because I can explain. Okay? Everybody, I agree. Everybody, I agree. You've got it. Yeah. That's great. Okay. And then stage two.So this is the record that we're going to do next. K? You finish your lesson after forty five minutes. You write your self evaluation, and then you complete this record. Okay? This is where you can write s plus plus for above standard, s meets the standard, n not to standard, or x for not applicable. So you probably won't put any x's. Usually, tutors at this stage give a lot of s's because you've had the chance to show most things, and you've not yet had the chance to show that you're above standard because you've only taught one level. And to be above standard overall in the course, you'll have to do those things above standard at both levels. Okay?So most criteria usually at this stage are s. Okay? Let's have a look. So stage two progress record, the hours taught. How many hours will you have taught by this time?Three. Yeah. Yeah. K. I can't make the little boxes work, so I just I just take the box away and look like it's raining. Can you see there are two columns? You've got you. You've got tutor. So in this column, before the tutorial, you write your own assessment of these criteria. What do you think?Do you think you are s to standard at identifying and stating appropriate aims and outcomes, or do you think you're not to standard? To know this, you'll need to look at your recent feedback. Probably most of the t p three feedback you'll be looking at when you're thinking about these things. K. You're right.
S, s plus, or n in all each section. So there'll be a whole line of s's probably. You might get a couple of n's if you think you haven't done it yet. That's on planning. And then the next page, the same thing for teaching practice, language analysis, language skills.Again, you've got a column for you, so you write all your s's in there. Then on the next page, you've got developing teaching skills and professionalism. Fill in the new column here. So how many pages have you got to do? So far.Three. Three. So far, three pages. Right? So you've got your audio essays on those three pages.Sorry. All all that after all that after the our t four. Is that correct? Yeah. Immediately after t p four. And then you won't feedback. And t p four, you won't have spoken feedback. In t p four, you're gonna talk to me about what you've written on this record. Got you. So, Nikki, yours needs to be ready to do at 07:00, And Yuval, yours needs to be ready to do at 07:30.Yeah. Then you have to do the written assignments. Think about the written assignments, identify any issues to the discussion. If you want to leave it blank, you can just write none none. You don't have to have a question here. But if you have a question, you can write it here. And other, the same thing. If there are no questions, you can just write none or I'm happy. If you have a question, you can write the question here. And then you have the overall progress. This is your assessment of your progress. Okay? You circle one option above standard to standard or not to standard, and you need to show the areas that you think you need to work on. These will probably be similar to what you've seen in t p three, and there might be something that you noticed that you still want to work on for t p four if there's anything that you haven't quite managed to do. And you add those comments here. And then for the overall progress, the tutor's assessment, then I'll give my assessment here. And, hopefully, they'll match. And at this point, I think I think everyone's to standard. I see I can't see any reason why anybody would not be to standard, like, at the moment, unless there's some disaster in t p four. I think you're doing well, and I think that I hope that the feedback is reflecting that. But I'm aware there's not loads of time, so to tell you it. But I think you're all great. I thought you're going okay. So nothing to worry about at this point. Okay? And what happens at the end of all of that, you share your screen with me, and we we talk to each other about what you've put in your new column. And then where it says tutor, I'll add my results into the tutor column, and I'll fill it in my selections. Yeah. And then I'll share the record with you. And after that, I'll sign it and date it, and you'll I'll ask you to indicate that it's an accurate record of what we've talked about, and then you'll add your signature.Okay? And the date. K. So you can still watch the video because that will probably reinforce it for you a bit. But I wanted to just make sure that we talk together about it first because I'm aware that when you first see it, you might not realize it's gonna take you a little bit of time and thought.K? So you might need to think about it a bit before. Okay. Alright. Are there any questions about the saltify?Okay. Alright. Are there any questions about anything else? Okay. I will tell you something before we go.TP3, I think, is one of the harder parts of the course because you've got so much information now. One more lesson to teach before you change levels. So you've got you've got just taught t p three, and now you're you're trying to amalgamate everything you've learned so far and trying to put it into t p four for your final lesson. And alongside that, you're working on you finished assignment one, and you're already thinking about assignment two. Okay?So to my in my opinion, t p three is one of the toughest parts of the beginning of the course, and I'm really, really pleased for you that it's done. Okay? Really, really well done. Now you can go ahead enjoy t p four. T p four will be your last lesson with this level and your last lesson with me before you move over then to the new class with the new tutor.K? So I'll miss you very much, and this will be our last feedback altogether, I guess. So I just want to say thank you so much. Yeah. That should have brought the cake.Yeah. Okay. Interesting. So I haven't really got anything. I have got a prize for you, though.Do you want the prize? Oh, yeah. Fran? The one heart that I ever will give on the call. I'm not allowed to write it down anymore. That is a surprise. I think you're all over again. Okay. I'll let you go and eat now. Patrick, stay if you'd like to ask another question. That's no problem for me. Oh. Look out for my email straight after this, okay, for people who talk tonight, for people who talk the other day. This link I've given you now is a better link than than the one I sent you the other day. K?Alright. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you.Have a good night. Thank you, everyone. See you next week. See you next week. See you.Bye. Bye. Okay. Actually, go ahead. Yeah.Just, Fran, could you please do me a favor about this celtal five? Just Yeah.Just if you could please put the number in the chat box for me, which page you reviewed, that would be a It's the stage two progress record. Yeah. I mean I mean, for example, page fifth if I'm not mistaken, it was page fifteen, sixteen.I don't see a page number right where I'm looking. Oh, okay. I've just I've just copied the title into the Okay. Okay. Okay.Very good. I think maybe because it I'm looking at the Google document version. Perhaps it doesn't show the page number. Yeah. No problem. How do that's yeah. You copy the topic here is good. The title. You copy the title is good. Be able to find that?
Okay. I copy inside a Word document for myself. Yeah. And with planning t p four, I'm gonna send you the the stuff right now. Okay?Make sure that you check the page number. Yeah. Yeah. Fran, sorry. I I send message to Yuval as well.I just followed my assignment for a four b four c. I didn't want to copy to copy the Yuval at all. K. Let me check my email and double check. Something's something's gone awry.Don't worry because it doesn't affect your assessment. Okay. Thank you. So what Thank you. So give me a second while I double check.Okay. Thank you. No worries. Just, yeah, just I wanted to convey my meaning that I just did my assignment. I didn't think about Yuval.Or But you watched Yuval's lesson. Didn't you notice that it was the same material? I just focus on my slides. You know? It's tricky, isn't it?And thank you for your patience if sometimes I I ask some questions. Very bad at all. It's such such a lot to do. Yes. I'm just having a look to see if I can find the.You just sent one topic at the in the chat box. Am I right? Yeah. Now I've sent you the stage two progress record in the chat box. Yes.I'm just having a look now just trying to find what's gone wrong here. So have you got the email that I sent to you after t p three after t p two? Yes. It's called t p two. Can we have a look at that? After after t p two. Yes. I found after t p two the email. Can can you open up the document? Let's have a look.Yeah. So this is for Yule, if I'm not mistaken. I put it in the checkbox. I can't see yours on that document. It's chopped off.Yeah. I'm looking for myself. Yeah. So I think you've done Yeah. This is Yuval and Nikki and Yuval?Vita. Nikki and then Vita. And then you're supposed to be on the bottom Yeah.Yeah. That's what's happened. Ah. Okay. But then I thought I sent it I thought I'd sent it to you again. But but but I remember that I wrote it down for myself. It was 4A4B4C. Yeah. And I escaped the picture and put it on my PowerPoint. Yeah. Yeah.By the way, happens. No worries. Yeah. It's over anyways. Yeah. No. Thank you. Thank you. But but You did it differently. You did it differently from from your file, so it didn't matter at all.Yeah. Yeah. It's fine. Yeah. But friend.Yeah. I'm pretty sure then you've got the right things for me. Sure. But friend, honestly speaking, when I thinking to your job, it's really difficult. You know? Yeah. And you're so professional and senior in this job, I reckon. I'm sure. I'm sure. Because you should deal with different people with different ideas and check everything. It's so difficult.I really appreciate your help and your your way to help us in this course. And me, personally, I'm so grateful. I understand your efforts and really appreciate those. Oh, that's lovely. Thank you.Thank you very much. You you're welcome. I'm just trying to trying to open up the document. Because the other thing is sometimes when people plan lessons, you know, we we give we give the materials and we give the guidance. But, actually, if somebody comes to it creatively from a different direction, we're allowed to acknowledge that, and we're allowed to to have a look at it and see.But sometimes in the lesson plan, like, with your lesson plan, sometimes I'm not quite clear what you're what you're intended to do because the procedure column isn't so so detailed, you see. Yeah. And that's one of the reasons why I'm asking you to put more detail into the procedure, Carla. Yeah. It's because if I can really see what it is you you're trying to do. Yeah.
Then I can feedback on that, and I can give you advice Yes. Straight away. Yes. Okay. Let me just see if I can find your materials for t p four, and I can post them in the chat here.Oh, okay. Thank you. So teacher. Teacher. All c So you are first, I think. Page twenty six twenty seven. I'm I'm gonna copy it here. Yep. So yours is on Thursday, May.Uh-huh. Before the lesson, please watch the video. And before the tutorial, fill in your sections. So that's what we've just been talking through. Yeah?Okay. Gonna fill in the the Yeah. Section. I copied and pasted in my word the t p four details. Right?Yeah. K. So five thirty six fifteen, teacher Patrick. You've got page twenty six and twenty seven. So it's a grammar aim teaching the present perfect.Yeah. So you do a little bit of just reading from the text, and then you'll teach the grammar, the present perfect. Okay. So your size is okay? Yes.Yeah. K. And then that will be followed by the stage two tutorial. So the minute you finish your lesson, you're gonna fill in your sample evaluation. Yeah. And your stage two tutorial record and be ready to talk to me about it at 7PM. Okay? Okay. You won't have spoken feedback that day. Okay.Okay? Yes. Alright. So to sum up, the main things to do for t p four for you in the plan, make sure you've got plenty of detail in the procedure column that says what the teacher will say, very small amounts Okay. This time.Okay. K? You've had a really lovely, very chatty lesson today, but you need to show me now that you can be quiet. Okay. They've got much more to the students.Okay? Yes. Yeah? Yes. And make sure, please, that it's easy for them to see from the plan which slide you're referring to.Because the draft that you sent me yesterday, I wasn't quite clear which part of the lesson related to which slide because I couldn't see from the procedure enough detail. Uh-huh. Okay. Yeah? Okay.
So you need more detail in the plan that helps me to match it up with the slide. And that way, I can see if I think something's going to go wrong. Okay. At the draft stage, I can tell you the night before, and you can make a change. Okay. But if it's not enough detail, I can't really see how time Okay. Makes it harder to Yeah. Help. Yeah? Sure. So, Fran, you were sending me the topics in at set of five. You sent me a stage two progress record hours, thought three planning for teaching. So what else you were speaking? If you want if you please copy paste here in the chat box the titles. I'm about to email it to you.Or Please. Please. Thank you. Not sure if you can hear me. So I'm about to email you, and I'll see you next time.Okay? Okay. Yeah. Thank you, Fran. Thank you for everything.Thank you very much. See you soon. See you. Bye bye. Bye bye.Bye.
