      • if close to the eye we need to refer to the emergency because it can cause blindness

      • If within 72 hours of symptom onset, we can get an antiviral like acylovir to help heal lesions and decrease pain

      • Immunocompromised patients

        • GIVE asyclovir regardless if its been more than 72 hours

      • Vaccines

        • 2 dose series given to adults over 50 or 18 and over with immuno compromised patients

        • Give vaccine regardless if they have already had shingles or not

        • No specific waiting period between when they have an outbreak and when we give the vaccine but just dont give it during active outbreak
