Charges on Ions

Ionic compounds are found when metals react with non-metals.

Ions are atoms with a charge.

Metals form positive ions

Most non-metals form negative ions

The charge of metal is often the same as the group number.

Transition metals can form several ions.

Non-metal ion charge relate to the group number also.

Some non-metals are positive even though they are non-metals.

These are H+ (Hydrogen Ion) and NH4+ (Ammonium)
