week 3- events management

activations can be done for any produce

How can we raise arwarness to who the client is:

  • a programme

  • a brochure

  • speeches at an event

  • posters

  • videos

Characteristics of Experiences:

  • provides connection (unites customers with the client)

  • Connection can be achieved through interaction and participation.

  • Involvement creates the opportunity for a deeper, more meaningful impact and lasting memories

  • through the connections, they can assist in creating an experience that customers judge to be worth the price

Creating connection opportunities at an event:

At an event, planners can create opportunities for the audience to express themselves and gain a deeper awarness about the client

Examples:

  • attendee shares something about themselves with the client

  • gamification

  • step into their shoes

writing boards:

  • they provide guests the opportunity to connect with the event’s client

  • the boards are designed in a way for attendees to express their feelings and comment on the client

  • it is a great exchange

  • attendees are asked a question and they fill it in

  • an example would be NHL Fan Fair, there was a recognition wall where attendees could pay tribute to someone who helps drive the game of hockey forward

  • another example is shoppers drug mart- each store has a bare tree on display in the store, customers who wish to participate write their name and comments on a leaf and then place the leaf on the tree branches to complete the ‘Tree of Hope’.

gamification:

  • creating a opportunity to play a game in a nongame environment- e.g. Kahoot, Duolingo

  • it is usually in the basis of a fun atmosphere

  • elements include:

  • progress and leaderboard notifications

  • level achievements

  • points and badges

  • it is supposed to be motivational and encouraging for the client/ partaker

game format example a:

  • create an activity that needs o be achieved

  • receive an immediate reward once activity is achieved

  • e.g. the mcdonalds monopoly, you wish that you get something, but it may not aklways be the case as sometimes u do not win anything

example b:

  • Create a variety of activities/ targets that need to be achieved

  • receive an immediate reward once all activities/ targets are achieved

  • e.g. u need to order quite a few items on the McDonald’s menu in order to win things from the monopoly prize

  • There are a few activities in order to receive a prize

example c:

  • The game structure is the same as example B, but participants are competing against one another

  • As it is a competition, players need to be aware of their status in comparison to the other participants

  • The top player receives a reward

  • e.g. Pokémon Go, would become a reality ppl would play this game with other ppl globally or around the city, and play with each other randomly

Examples of gamification:

  • McDonald’s and Pokémon Go created successful marketing campaigns using gamification to create awarness and interest

  • e.g. the McDonald’s monopoly

Gamification example:

by stepping into someone’s shoes

  • seeing what they are seeing

  • hearing what they hear

This will gain a better connection- gives ppl a better understanding

for a wedding/ coporate/ charity evening?

  • for these events you need a banquet

what’s the benefit of using a theme for an event?

  • for a planner, it removes all the clutter

  • using a theme provides the planner with a specific topic- it is very impactful

theme development:

  • a theme can act as the ‘nucleus’ of an event

  • a theme is only as strong as the sum of its parts:

  • marketing

  • decor

  • food and bev

  • entertainment

  • venue

what can ur audience gain from a themed event?

  • it is exciting

  • attendees can fully immerse themselves in the event

  • intrigue

  • memories

  • interest

  • helps separate your event from the competition

Examples- 3D Architectural mapping- if u want a theme u can project it on buildings

Projection Mapping Toronto | Video Mapping for Events

Decor examples:

  • if u do a disney theme- u can use mickey mouse chairs

  • formula 1 theme- race car themed chair

Banquet chairs:

  • for chairs like this u can get a rose accessory added to the chairs for a nature theme or summer theme or valentines theme

  • chair covers are a classy example for this, e.g. if u do a Madagascar theme u might want zebra chair cover up

colour is NOT enough to represent a theme element- instead if u want it to be a theme e.g. ocean themed u have to go over and beyodn and acc give ppl the sensation that they are there e.g. fill the whole floor ware with water and fish

decoration items should not be repeated, throughout the event- you do not want to bore the guests
