Genetic Diversity
Missense mutation: a DNA change that results in different amino acids being encoded at a particular position in the resulting protein
Other types of mutatin
Duplication - one or more bases are repeated
Inversion - a sequence of bases is reversed
Translocation - a group of bases is moved from one location to another
Consequence of mutations
Have no effect if the mutation is silient
Change the primary structure of a protein by altering one or more amino acid
Cause a non-functional protein if the mutation affects an important region on like an active site
Result in the formation of a shorter polypeptide if a stop codon introduced
