Behavior Intervention Plan for 2nd Grade Student Bothering Peers

Behavior Intervention Plan

Goal

The student will reduce incidents of bothering other kids (i.e., interrupting, poking, or distracting peers) by 75% over the next six weeks.

Strategies

  1. Positive Reinforcement

    • Implement a token economy where the student earns tokens for each 10-minute segment spent without bothering peers. After collecting 10 tokens, the student can exchange them for a small reward (e.g., extra recess time, a sticker).

  2. Social Skills Training

    • Conduct weekly small group sessions using social stories to illustrate appropriate peer interaction and the impact of their actions on others.

    • Role-playing scenarios in the classroom to practice turn-taking and inviting peers to play instead of disrupting.

  3. Movement Breaks

    • Schedule regular movement breaks to help the student release excess energy. For example, a brief 5-minute stretch or physical activity after every 30-45 minutes of focused work.

Implementation

  • Introduce the token system during morning circle time, explaining how it works and the rewards.

  • Schedule social skills sessions twice per week, emphasizing strategies for appropriate interactions.

  • Create a classroom chart to track tokens earned, allowing the student to visually see their progress.

Monitoring Progress

  • Maintain a daily behavior log that tracks incidents of bothering others and tokens earned.

  • Hold weekly meetings with the student to review their log and discuss how they felt about their interactions over the week.

  • Collaborate with parents to receive input on behaviors at home and ensure reinforcement of the strategies implemented at school.

Adjustments

  • If there is no significant improvement within three weeks, consider involving the school counselor for additional support.

  • Adjust the token reward system to more immediate rewards for smaller goals to maintain motivation.
