Bolsheviks—- political faction with Marxist ideologies; believed in violent revolution.

February Revolution of 1917

Violent protests. Nicholas ll abdicated. Provisional gov created.

Germany sent Vladimir Lenin back to Russia

October Revolution of 1917

Lenin led a coup. Slogan “Peace land and bread”.

1918-—- the tsar and his family are executed = civil war (1918-1919)

Non-aggression Pact —- August 23, 1931, Soviet and Germany agreed not to attack one another
