mock trial taylor alexander direct
Good evening Mr. Alexander. Could you please introduce yourself to the court?
Hi! My name is Taylor Alexander. I’m 36 years old, and I’ve lived in Emerald Bend my entire life. The town is, honestly, everything to me.
Do you know why you’re here to testify today?
Yes, to talk about my kidnapping on november 11th
I know this is going to be difficult, but I would like to ask you more about what happened. Can you tell us what was going on around that time?
I was running for city council, because I love this town so much. I truly believed that my policies and ideas would result in the best possible future for the town.
Were you running against anyone?
Yeah…I was running against Dorais.
What was your relationship like with your opponent?
Even though we were opponents, I had a pretty good relationship with Dorais, but Gold, who happened to be both Dorais’ spouse AND assistant campaign manager, on the other hand, that was an entirely different story.
Why do you say that?
Gold and I did NOT get along. I don’t know if it was politics, or the economy, but it was like they hated me.
Did any significant events occur during the lead-up to the election?
The only debate of the entire election was scheduled to be on November 11th. It was really important because Dorais and I were polling super close so this would really influence the election… but that was the day I got kidnapped, meaning I wasn't able to make it.
How did the day begin?
Well, I began that day like every other by going on a run at 5:30 am. Gold and Dorais both know this. I took my keys, including my home keys and vacation rental keys. All of a sudden, someone came up behind me and covered me with a pillowcase.
Did you try to fight back?
I tried so hard to fight back, but they immediately tied my wrists behind my back. I was stuffed into the trunk of a car forcefully and violently. Then they just started driving and I remember being so terrified. This was one of the scariest things I've ever experienced.
What happened after you got out of the car?
I remember I was dragged along a muddy hill for a distance… I fell a couple times but was forced to get up and keep moving.
What happened next?
I was pushed into a sharp metal chair and my wrists and ankles were tied around it.
What did you remember feeling at that moment?
I remember not being able to move and feeling so scared.
Could you tell at all where you were?
No… the pillowcase still covered my upper body, but I could discern other things with my other senses.
What were you able to sense?
For instance, my wrists were tied together, and I have no idea what it was, but I was drugged with this unknown substance.
What did the syrup do to you?
It completely knocked me out. A little bit later, I suddenly woke up after being shaken. I woke up early, there was so much adrenaline in my body.
How did you feel after?
I felt really dazed… and dizzy. I was drugged again, but I was so scared this time I didn't sleep until much later. But I did remember that during then, I heard someone say the phrase “Everything comes back around.”
Have you ever heard this phrase before?
yeah I've heard this phrase many times… it’s basically gold’s mantra. he said it all the time
Was there any specific instance you remember?
gold once told me that i would be the town's downfall. i specifically remember him saying that what i was doing to help the town would actually ruin it, and that my actions were ‘going to come back to me.’
What happened after you woke up again for the second time?
I found my wrists and ankles untied. Then I realized that I was in a storage shed on what seemed to be my own rental property. I remember being so grateful that nothing worse happened.
What did you see around you after you woke up?
I saw the pillowcase that had been used in my kidnapping… I found that it had the logo of Gold’s hotel, Gold Standard Inn, on it. It also had ‘Dorais for Emerald Bend’ written on it in Sharpie.
Could you tell me anything else that happened that day?
I told Deputy Kim what happened… I was really upset… whole experience was awful and tiring and draining. More so, because of this i ended up missing the debate. This debate was really critical. While I’m not completely sure WHY I lost the election, this definitely heavily contributed to the result.
