Types of Validity in Methods and Measurement

Types of Validity in Methods and Measurement

1. Criterion Validity

  • Measures correlation with a known gold standard.

2. Concurrent Validity

  • Correlates with a previously validated measure.

  • Assesses differentiation between groups at application time.

3. Predictive Validity

  • Predicts future events or outcomes based on current measure differences.

  • Considered a subtype of criterion validity.

4. Convergent Validity

  • Assesses if different measures yield similar results for the same construct.

5. Discriminant Validity

  • Checks if different measures do not positively associate with each other for different constructs.

Note:

Convergent and discriminant validity contribute to or are subtypes of construct validity and are essential for comprehensive evaluation.
