1. Birth and Early Life

  • Birth: Born in Bethlehem to Mary and Joseph. His birth is prophesied in the Old Testament.

  • Childhood: Grew up in Nazareth, Galilee. Scripture mentions his visit to the Temple at age 12, demonstrating early wisdom.

  • Family: Son of God, born of the Virgin Mary; earthly father Joseph, a carpenter.

2. Ministry

  • Baptism: Baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River, an event marking the beginning of his public ministry. The Holy Spirit descended like a dove, and a voice from heaven declared him the beloved Son.

  • Temptation: After his baptism, Jesus went into the wilderness for 40 days and was tempted by the Devil, but successfully resisted.

  • Disciples: Called twelve main disciples (apostles) to follow him and learn from him, including Peter, James, John, and Matthew.

  • Teachings: Central themes include:

    • Kingdom of God: Proclaimed the imminent arrival and nature of God's reign.

    • Love and Forgiveness: Emphasized love for God and neighbor, and the importance of forgiving others.

    • Sermon on the Mount: Delivered key moral and ethical teachings, including the Beatitudes.

    • Parables: Used stories like the Prodigal Son, the Good Samaritan, and the Sower to convey spiritual truths.

  • Miracles: Performed numerous miracles demonstrating his divine power and compassion:

    • Walking on water

    • Feeding multitudes (e.g., 5,000 with five loaves and two fish)

    • Raising the dead (e.g., Lazarus, Jairus's daughter)

3. Passion and Crucifixion

  • Last Supper: Shared a final meal with his disciples, instituting the Eucharist (communion).

  • Betrayal and Arrest: Betrayed by Judas Iscariot and arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane.

  • Trials: Faced trials before the Sanhedrin (Jewish religious court) and Pontius Pilate (Roman governor), being falsely accused.

  • Crucifixion: Sentenced to death by crucifixion, an excruiciating form of execution. Died on a cross on Calvary (Golgotha).

  • Death: "Crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell (or Hades)."

4. Resurrection and Ascension

  • Resurrection: On the third day after his death, Jesus was bodily resurrected from the dead, leaving an empty tomb. This is the cornerstone of Christian belief.

  • Appearances: Appeared to his disciples and many others over 40 days, proving his resurrection.

  • Great Commission: Instructed his disciples to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them.

  • Ascension: Ascended into heaven 40 days after his resurrection, promising to return and sending the Holy Spirit.
