IDF Enlistment and Induction Process (Chiyul)
The term Chiyul (חיול) refers to the official enlistment and military induction process undergone by recruits entering the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). This foundational administrative and logistical procedure marks the formal transition of an individual from civilian status to active-duty military service.
Key Administrative and Logistical Procedures
During the Chiyul process, recruits pass through a mandatory sequence of stations designed to complete legal, medical, and personal integration into the military system.
Identity Verification and Registration: Recruits present personal identification documents and official induction notices (Tzav Gius) to confirm personal details and update military records.
Biometric and Medical Profiling: The procedure includes digital fingerprinting, biological profiling (such as DNA sampling), and mandatory dental panoramic imaging for medical records and identification purposes.
Military Identification Issuance: Each recruit is photographed to produce a standard military identification card (Teudat Chogere), which serves as their official credential throughout service.
Supply and Gear Distribution: Soldiers are equipped with standard military attire, including operational uniforms, footwear, personal accessories, and field equipment.
Oath of Allegiance: The enlistment procedure culminates in a formal swearing-in ceremony, establishing the legal duty and commitment of the soldier to the defense forces.
