WORKING WITH TABLES IN MICROSOFT WORD
Formatting Tables
Layout Tab:
The Layout tab is an integral part of formatting tables in Microsoft Word, allowing users to customize the appearance and structure of tables effectively through the Design and Layout tabs.
Inserting Rows and Columns
Method 1:
Step 1: Position your cursor in the row or column adjacent to the location where you want to insert a new row or column.
Step 2: Navigate to 'Table Tools', then select the Layout tab, and choose to insert a row or column above, below, to the left, or to the right as needed.
Method 2:
Step 1: Place the cursor in the desired position contextually within the table.
Step 2: Right-click the cell, then select from the "Insert" dropdown options to add rows or columns as required.
Deleting a Row/Column/Table
Method 1:
To delete a row, column, or entire table, navigate to the Layout Tab, click on the "Delete" dropdown, and select the option that suits your needs, whether it’s deleting an entire row, column, or the entire table itself.
Method 2:
Alternatively, you can right-click a specific row or column and select from the available options such as "Delete Entire Row" or "Delete Entire Column" for more precise control over deletions.
Applying Table Style
Step 1: Highlight the entire table that you wish to format.
Step 2: Under 'Table Tools', click on the Design tab and explore various pre-designed styles to choose a suitable design that enhances the visual appeal of the table.
MANAGING TABLES
Merging and Splitting Cells
Merging Cells:
To merge two or more selected cells into one, select the cells, navigate to the Layout tab and click on "Merge Cells" to combine them into a single cell encompassing the selected area.
Splitting Cells:
To divide a cell into multiple rows and columns, select the targeted cell, then click on "Split Cells". You will be prompted to specify the number of columns and rows you wish to split the cell into, facilitating better organization of content.
Deleting a Table
If you need to remove an entire table, place the cursor inside any cell of the table, go to the Layout Tab, hover over "Delete", and select "Delete Table" to eliminate the entire structure.
Moving and Resizing Tables
To move a table, simply click and drag the handle located at the upper-left corner of the table. To resize, grab the lower-right corner handle and adjust the dimensions by dragging until the table fits your requirements appropriately.
Adjusting Row Height and Column Width
Select the entire row or specific cells in the table, then navigate to the Layout tab and specify the desired height and width within the Cell Size group to ensure a well-organized layout and formatting consistency throughout your document.
DOCUMENT AUTOMATION FEATURES
Autoformat
The Autoformat feature allows users to quickly apply a consistent format to text elements like headings, numbered lists, hyperlinks, or other styling options, making it easier to maintain uniformity throughout the document.
Automatic Formatting Options
This feature supports the automatic hyperlinking of internet addresses and applies bold or italic formatting to specific text types. Formatting can occur while typing or during document review mode, enabling faster document preparation.
Tracking Changes

Steps to Print
Step 1: Click on the File tab located in the menu bar.
Step 2: Select Print from the menu to view and configure print settings, ensuring you set the necessary options before proceeding. Options available include printing all pages, specific selections, the current page, or designated page ranges, including odd/even pages, allowing for customized printing.
Lastly, click Print when you are ready to output your document.
