AP BIO UNIT 3

  • The higher the activation energy the slower the chemical reaction will be

    Structure of enzymes:

  • Secondary structure: the organization of amino acids (containing of alpha helixes or beta pleated sheets)

  • Tertiary Structure: overall 3-demensional part of an enzyme for example the active site or functional groups

    Photosynthesis

    overview:

  • Light dependent → inputs: light and h2o, outputs → ATP, NADPH, and o2

  • Light independent/calvin cycle → inputs: ATP, NADPH, co2, Outputs → sugar

  • Light Dependent:

  • Light hits PSII and excites electrons that steal energy from water, the excited electrons move down their free energy level and while doing so release H+ ions, then they hit PSI and do the same process to make NADPH from NADP+ from excited electron transformations and o2 from the h2o being pumped twice without and hydrogen ions.

  • Light Independent / calvin cycle

  • RUBP catalyzed by Rubisco to make 6 carbon pyruvate than splits into 2 3 carbon molecules in regeneration, then it goes thru 2 times to make 5, 4 stay to make RUBP 1 goes to make glucose
