Introduction

Mi”gothannen’av valtervaak! (Hello and Welcome!) to the Efven”thal language. Here, you are able to find official information that is streamlined into various learning tools, such as study guides, flash cards, and even tests. Attempting to make it easy for players who wish to dedicate their time and elevate their roleplay experience by learning the Twin Mask conlang of the Effendal culture.

    So, let’s get into it . . .

  • What even is Efven”thal?

    • Within the world of Alderune, Efven”thal is the dead language of the Effendal culture. Thought to derive from the Astari sometime within The Second Age. It is said that the Astari gifted the language to the Effendal people and used it for a time. However, as years passed and interactions with other various bloodlines became more prevalent, the language fell dead and vanished to time. Scholars are trying to revive the language and help Effendals reunite themselves with part of their culture.

Outside of the world of Alderune, this is a conlang created for players who wish to immerse themselves further within the world of Twin Mask.

  • What is a conlang?

    • ‘Conlang’ is the shortened term for ‘constructed language’. Meaning, this is a language that has been designed and constructed for some purpose, oftentimes to be used in works of fiction. Where the phonology, grammar, and vocabulary have been purposefully constructed instead of being naturally developed like within natlangs. It may also be referred to as artificial, planned, or invented language.

  • What is a natlang?

    • ‘Natlang’ is the shortened term for ‘natural language’. Meaning language that has naturally developed within various cultures and over time.

  • What is this language for?

    • This constructed language is being produced for the Twin Mask LARP. Specifically for a fictional group of people known as the ‘Effendals’ within the world of Alderune.

  • What is the overall goal for this language?

    • The overall goal of this fictional constructed language is to create a more immersive experience for players who participate in the Effendal culture within the game of Twin Mask. The main goal is to make the conlang easy to learn and be picked up by dedicated players within the Effendal culture, and be used by the player base in speaking, reading, and writing. There is a desire for the language to be easy to learn by dedicated players, but unique and ‘foreign’ enough to be established as its own unique fictional and functional language within the world of Aldrune by the Effendal people.

  • Who are the Effendal people?

    • The Effendal culture is a fictional culture within the game of Twin Mask LARP. Within a general sense, they are the ‘Elves’ of the world with particular values and beliefs that set them apart from the ‘humans’. Set in Houses and Tribes across the land of Tear’Tyr (aka Tyr or Tear), where each House/Tribe has its own sense of culture.
