Nutrients: substances that the body needs to regulate bodily-functions, promote growth, repair body tissues, and obtain energy

Metabolism: the chemical process by which the body breaks down food to release energy

Carbohydrates: A nutrient made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen that supplies energy

Fiber: A type of complex carbohydrate that is found in plants and is necessary for the proper functioning of the digestive system

Saturated Fats: A fat that has all the hydrogen the carbon atom needs

Trans Fat: The type of fat produced when manufacturers add hydrogen to the fat molecules in vegetable oil.

Amino acids: small units that are bound together chemically to form proteins

Unsaturated Fats: A fat with at least one unsaturated bond in a place where hydrogen can be added to the molecule

Obesity: Condition in adults who have a body mass in des(BMI of 130 or higher)

Proteins: A nutrient that contains nitrogen as well as carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen needed for growth and repair of body tissues

Antioxidants: A vitamin that helps protect healthy cells from the damaged cells caused by normal aging process as well as certain types of cancer

Anemia. A condition when red blood cells don't contain enough hemoglobin

Appetite: A desire for food based on emotion and other factors rather than on nutrient need

Overweight: term used to describe a person who is heavier than theperson height
