Master Carpenter -  Building Scenery

Master Electrician - lead in lighting focus and maintenance.

Property Master - gather/build person set props.

Costume Master - gather/build clothing and accessories

Actor - storyteller communicates script to audience .

Running Crew - non-cast who “run” shows from backstage or house.

Theater Management - tickets/house

Blocking - major movements.

Business - Minor movements.

Read Through - The first read through the lines.

Dry-Tech Rehearsal - run-through without actors like running crews.

Dress Rehearsal - actors wear their costumes.

Rake - non-level stage or platform deck; higher in one end than the other.

Platform - scenery used to change the height of the stage floor.

Flat - frame covered in canvas or lavan, used to create walls and other vertical scenery.

Periaktoi - revolving triangular prism of flats, use to rapidly change scenery

Unit set -  Basic set which remains consistent throughout the show; only altering slightly through use of furniture or set pieces.

Box set -  Naturalistic, usually interior; built from flats with side nearest audience (fourth wall)

Cyclorama - Curtain used to reflect light; usually unpainted light blue or white

Scrim - loosely woven material that is opaque when lighted from the front and translucent when lighted from behind. 40x60

Ground Plan -  Two-dimensional drawing of scenery as it relates to theater architecture from a birds eye view.

Light Plot - Blueprint for lighting; identifies instrument type, gel, Circuit, dimmer, area, etc.

Costume Plot - Spreadsheet noting character/scenes/costume needs.

Costume Plate - Finished color rendering of costume design, including swatches of textiles.

Border/Teaser -  Narrow horizontal musking used hanging above stage.

Grand Curtain - Cover, in a proscenium point curtain hanging upside of the proscenium arch: usually coupled with grand teaser.

Legs - Curtains hanging vertically to mask wing space.

Fly System - Series of pulleys, ropes, cables, etc. Which collectively allows hanging/movement of curtains, instruments, scenery, and people.

Traveler - Curtain mounted on a traveling rod which allows it to be pulled towards the center or towards the wings.

Drop - large scenic canvas, usually painted, flown or flexed in a vertical position. Unbleach musslan is used a lot.

Ground Cloth - Printed canvas used as floor covering.

Wagon - Mobile platform used to support and transport scenery.

Property - object used on stage

Special Effects - Pyro, fog, hase, specialty lighting, speciality flying.

Wings - backstage area to right and left of playing space.

Orchestra Pit - In proscenium-style theater, sunken part of house floor, immediately downstage of apron where the accompanists perform. Must have a pit cover, extending apron.

Apron -  any part of the stage that extends past the proscenium arch.

GOBO - tencilled circular disc, and used in lighting fixtures to create a projected image or pattern.

Area Lighting - to provide visibility and depth in an area.

Color Wash - even saturation of color over a large area.

Special - Lighting instrument used for specific purpose, rather than area or color wash.

Backlight - Illumination from behind erasing a separation of the subject from the background.
