MRI - magnetic resonance imaging (inside look without surgery)
Differential Diagnosis - a list of possible diseases or disorders based on the information collected during diagnosis
Somatic Cell - any cell that isn’t a sex cell
Mitosis - cellular replication
Interphase - DNA replicates
Prophase - nuclear envelope disappears, chromosomes condense and pair with sister chromatid, mitotic spindle forms
Metaphase - chromosomes line up in center, fibers attach and pull sister chromatids
Anaphase - sister chromatids pulled to opposite sides
Telophase and Cytokinesis - cell splits and daughter cells identical
Tumors - lumps or masses of tissue caused by uncontrolled cell division
Benign - generally considered harmless; will not spread elsewhere and are not cancer
Malignant - cancerous tumors - harmful; can spread elsewhere
Metastasis - the spread of cancerous cells to other tissues/parts of the body
Biopsy - removal of cells for studying
Cancer - a disease caused when cells divide uncontrollably and spread into other tissues
Pathologist - examines bodies, tissues, and fluid samples to look for changes and other signs of disease, collaborate with other medical professionals to provide a diagnosis
Basal Cell Carcinoma - skin cell cancer where cells are darker and rounder
