  • found in the brain

  • stimulated by the hypothalamus

hormones

  • antidiuretic hormone (ADH) or vasopressin

    • increases water retention in the kidneys which decreases urine production

      • too much- diabetes insides- increases urination and thirst

      • not enough- water retention- increased urine output, decrease in Na in blood

  • Oxytocin (OT)

    • stimulates contraction of the uterus during childbirth, and promotes the release of breast milk

      • too much- increased uterine contractions, emotional dysregulation

      • not enough - impaired labor and delivery, lack of partial bonding
