The Electoral College is a system used to directly elect the President of the United States, and it works in a very straightforward way. Each state has a set number of electors, equal to its number of Senators and Representatives in Congress, but the number of electors a state gets is based only on its population. Bigger states like California have more electors, while smaller states like Wyoming have fewer. During the presidential election, the popular vote in each state decides the outcome, and the candidate who wins the most votes nationwide automatically becomes the president.
In this system, all states split their electors proportionally according to the vote, so even if a candidate doesn’t win the majority in a state, they still get some electoral votes. Electors are independent and can choose to vote for any candidate they want, and they are not bound by the popular vote in their state. Once the electors meet and cast their votes, the candidate with the most electoral votes, regardless of how many popular votes they received, is declared president.
This method was created to ensure the direct voice of the people in presidential elections.

Impeachment in the United States is a process designed to immediately remove any government official, including the president, from office as soon as they are accused of misconduct. It begins in the Senate, where a simple majority vote is required to start the impeachment process. Senators themselves decide what qualifies as "impeachable offenses," and it doesn’t necessarily have to be related to breaking the law. Once the Senate votes to impeach, the official is automatically removed from office without any further steps.
Afterward, the case is sent to the House of Representatives for a trial, where the official has the chance to defend themselves. However, the House doesn't really have much power in this process and mainly reviews the Senate’s decision. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court serves as a judge, but they don't play a significant role, as the final decision still rests with the senators.
If a government official is impeached, they are not only removed from office but also automatically barred from holding any future political position. Impeachments have occurred regularly in U.S. history, as it is a fairly quick and common method to deal with disagreements over leadership.
