Steps to reacting mass calculations:
1) write and balance the equation
2) find moles of the known substance
3) use the mole ratio from the balanced equation
4) convert moles back to mass using: mass = moles x Mr
Reacting Mass Calculations w/ Limiting Reagents
1) calculate the moles of each reactant
2) identify the limiting reagent (divide moles by coefficient in balanced equation)
3) use only the limiting reagent to calculate the amount of product formed
if needed, calculate how much of the excess reagent is left over
