Eschatology Lecture Notes

"Eschatology" = the doctrine/study of the "last things" or “end times.”
Lecture covers Assemblies-of-God / general evangelical pre-tribulation, pre-millennial linear model.
Framework derives largely from 1930s dispensational charts of Clarence Larkin, popularised by Scofield, Darby, John Hagee, etc.
Speaker acknowledges scholarly criticism of dispensationalism but presents it as the clearest chronological map for most A/G audiences.

Uses a linear timeline:
- Creation
- → Church Age
- → Rapture
- → 7-year Tribulation
- → 2nd Coming
- → Armageddon
- → $1000$ -year Millennium
- → Final Rebellion
- → New Heaven & New Earth.
Time-clock “could start at any moment.”
Emphasizes hope and encouragement for believers (“blessed hope”).
Encourages reading Revelation despite symbolic difficulty; key exhortation: receive God’s seal, not Antichrist’s.

Scriptural basis: $1 \text{Thessalonians }4:13\text{–}18$ .
- Dead in Christ rise first; living believers “caught up” (Latin rapturo) to meet the Lord in the clouds.
- Accompanied by: cry of command, voice of archangel, trumpet of God.
- Purpose: comfort & encouragement (v. 18).
Can occur before the video finishes – imminence stressed.
Initiates prophetic countdown toward Tribulation.

Other eschatological schemes exist (post-trib, mid-trib, amillennial, post-millennial).
Scholarly criticism focuses on:
- Arbitrary dispensations.
- Western cultural lens.
Course will survey alternative proposals in chapters 13–16; however, Assemblies of God default is pre-trib/premill.

Provides hope and encouragement amid suffering.
Motivates evangelism and holy living (urgency—clock could start any time).
Instructor stresses need to teach congregations; many believers unfamiliar with timeline.
Encourages churches to host dedicated Revelation seminars (6-hour format or two-session Sundays).
