Each volunteer was introduced to another participant (confederate- mr Wallace)
Drew lots to see who would be the teacher and who the learner
Draw was fixed so the confederate was always the learner
if a learner got an answer wrong the teacher had to shock the learner with an electric shock

100% of ps gave up to 300v
12.5% of ps stop here
The rest went to 450v
Most ps were stressed

RESEARCH SUPPORT- Sheridan and king found ps would give a real shock to a puppy in response to orders from an experimenter. 54% of males and 100% females gave a real shock
LOW INTERNAL VALIDITY-milgram reported that 75% of his ps thought the shocks were real. Orne and Holland argues that ps didn’t believe this and were play acting
