Word 2021 Overview

File Menu Options

  • Info: Overview of document properties and protection

  • New: Create a new document

  • Open: Access existing documents

  • Save/Save As: Save current work or create a copy in a different location or format

  • Print: Print the document

  • Share: Share the document with others

  • Export: Export the document to different formats

  • Close: Close the document

  • Account: Manage account settings

  • Options: Configure Word settings for customization

Quick Access Toolbar

  • Can be customized for easy access to frequently used commands.

Mouse Pointers and Insertion Point

  • The pointer changes depending on context.

  • Insertion Point: Indicates where new text will be entered.

Word Wrap

  • Automatically moves text to the next line as you type.

Paragraph and Line Endings

  • Pilcrow Mark: Represents the end of a paragraph (hard return).

  • Newline Character: Shift+Enter (soft return) signifies the end of a line without creating a new paragraph.

Command Access

  • Button Icons: Provide quick access to commands.

  • Keyboard Shortcuts: ALT for key tips, older shortcuts like Ctrl+C for Copy.

  • Function Key (F4): Repeats the last action.

Visual Tools and Menus

  • Screen Tip: Displays information on hover.

Document Settings and Features

  • By default, Word 2021 saves files as .docx, compatible with Word 2007-2019.

  • The "Word Options" menu accessed via the File tab leads to Backstage view.

  • Non-printing characters are hidden by default but can assist with formatting checks.

  • Default margins are set to 1" on all sides for new documents.

Paragraph Spacing

  • Example: "After: 6 points" refers to paragraph spacing settings.

Font Types

Styles and Design

  • Styles do not apply an overall design to an entire document (False).
