Resistance at Tule Lake

  • What is a thesis?

    • Japanese Americans resisted

  • Issei and Nissei

    • Issei had to deal with a lot of racial government/social cues (could be killed)

    • Nissei had to reassure that it wouldn’t happen because America wouldn’t do that (racial equality)

  • Butter people: Racial discrimination from native Japanese people, feeling of don’t belong in America or native country

  • Nissei was pissed that American soldiers were disloyal and betrayed their statement

  • They associate themselves with Japan even tho they heard Japan from their parents, they devote themselves to the US

  • Collective trauma
