Quotations Conventions

  • To talk about the name of something or a word without the definition, put quotation marks around it eg. Dog is an animal vs “Dog” is a word

Object Language & Metalanguage

  • when you talk about language, the language being talked about is the Object Language and the language being used to talk about the object language is the Metalanguage

  • In this course, the object language is TFL and the metalanguage is English

Metavariables

  • Metavariables are arbitrary

  • Represent a variable who’s value changes

  • Used to discuss expressions of TFL

Quotation Conventions for Arguments

  • TFL has no way to indicate something as the conclusion of an argument, so use therefore symbol to indicate conclusions

  • Therefore symbol is part of the metalanguage
