Thyroid hormones monitored by: TSH → Free T3 and T4

low TSH - high free T3 and T4 menas that you have hypothyroidism 

high TSH - low free t3 and t4 means you have hyperthryroidism 


Hyperthyroidism

  • thiamides  - WBC dec, hypo, liver 

    • methimazole - shouldn’t be used in the first triamster of pregnacy 

    • PTU - liver toxicity - can be used in the first triamester of pregancy but should then switch to methiamzole 

  • Radioactive iodine - uses beta cells to destroy thyroid hormone - only works there 

    • no pregnat - hypo

  • nonradioactive iodine - works with creating enagtive feedback to the PTH telling it sto stop - can cause bad because cause TH to permnatley stop producing TSH

    • lugis’s solution 5 and 10%

    • only used for short period 

    • in emergency caes like surgery 

    • Iodinism _——— cause nse oral and bruning im these ares - coopery 

Hypothyrdoidism 

  • levothyroxine - T4 - less potent but lasts longer and is convereted into T3

  • Liothyronine - T3 more potent more effective 

  • liotrix - T4/T3 ration of 4:1

  • thyroid hormone - animal
