Definition of Similar Figures

Similar figures are geometric shapes that share the same shape but have different sizes. For two figures to be classified as similar, their corresponding angles must be congruent, and their corresponding side lengths must be proportional.

Scale Factor Applications

A scale factor is a numerical multiplier used to either enlarge, known as a stretch, or reduce, known as a shrink, the overall size of a figure. For an enlargement to occur, the scale factor must be greater than 11. For a reduction to occur, the scale factor must be less than 11. A scale factor equal to exactly 11 indicates that the two figures are congruent.

Calculating Proportionality and Missing Dimensions

This formula is used to identify whether two figures are similar by comparing ratios.
