Science mark schemes:
1 marker: just a simple fact/ knowledge
2 marks: Requires a piece of knowledge and commonly an explanation
3 marks: usually subject to question very specific
4: Point, explain Point explain
5: Usually maths use UVEST: units, variables, equations, substitution, and transformation to get full marks for working and an explanation if need be.
6: usually have solutions in bands in which case be as meticulous as possible: You need an advanced answer that clearly explains in great detail. try to jam pack it with as much knowledge as possible e.g:
Explain the current model of the atom [6]
The atom is comprised of a nucleus and outer electron shells with protons , which have a positive relative charge of +1 and a relative atomic mass of 1, and neutrons, which have no relative charge and a relative mass of 1, making up the nucleus. And the electrons on the outer shells which have a relative charge of -1 and a negligible relative mass. There are the the same amount of electrons as neutrons in an atom and their atomic number is defined by the amount of protons they have meanwhile their relative atomic mass is their number of protons + the number of neutrons. Atoms are mostly empty space with a small nucleus that holds all the mass and electrons orbiting it held in orbit by forces of electrostatic attraction.
Something like that’d do the trick. The mark scheme is very annoy so you will be forced to so “what of everything” e.g “the magnesium with react with the oxygen in the air to become” wouldn’t work you’d have to specify that its the magnesium ATOMS reacting with oxygen ATOMS. And you have to apply this picky thinking to the entire damn thing.
On graph questions you always have to have:
Labelled Y and X axis
Labelled graph
Units
Line or curve of best fit: enough to interpolate data
Points plotted with X’s
Suitable consistent scales for each axis
Sharp clear lines
Compare = 2 sentences per mark e.g
gamma radiation have no relative atomic mass, alpha particles have a relative atomic mass of 4
gamma radiation has no charge, alpha radiation as a positive chare of +2
