Refers to having a disease or a symptom of disease or to the amount of disease within a population.

Incidence
Refers to the occurrence of new cases of disease or injury in a population over a specified period of time.
Limited to new cases only.
Prevalence
Proportion of persons in a population who have a particular disease or attribute at a specified point in time or over a specified period.
Includes all cases, both new and pre-existing, in the population at the specified time.
