  1. Ersatz-an artificial substitute; often an inferior copy of something genuine

  2. Disenfranchise-To deprive the right to exercise a certain privilege, especially to vote

  3. Imbue-To fill, implant or inspire with feelings, inspiration, motivation, etc.

  4. Anachronistic (A)-Something not in its correct historical/chronological time

  5. Denizen (N)-Person who regularly frequents a place-not work or home

  6. Metier (N)-A field of work, trade, occupation or expertise.

  7. Moxie (N)-Courageous spirit and determination with style

  8. Platitude(N)-Flat, dull remark used as if it were exciting, new, original

  9. Levity (N)-lightness of demeanor or behavior; lack of seriousness

  10. Semantics (N)-The study of meaning in language including context, subtlety, and literal meanings.

  11. Vet (V)-To make a critical examination of something/someone

  2. Reverie (N)-A pleasant, consuming, insightful thought or memory

  3. Germane (A)-Suitably related to the topic being discussed

  4. Bucolic (A)-Relating to the pleasant aspects of countryside or country life

  5. Kitsch (N)-Art, objects, design considered to poor quality due to an over-abundance of sentimentality

  6. Ingratiate (V)-To bring oneself into favor by flattery or pleasing them

 

  1. Obfuscate (V)- To make something unclear or obscure, especially unnecessarily complicated.

  2. Specious (A)- Deceptively attractive on the surface, but actually of no real interest or value; Appearing to be true, but really false.

  3. Compunction (N)- Feelings of guilt, shame, and regret about doing something wrong. Remorse or uncertainty about a decision or course of action.

  4. Litany (N)- A long and repetitious list of problems, complaints, insults, questions…usually a negative connotation

  5. Milieu (N)- The surroundings or environment that someone lives in and is influenced by. The circumstances or environment around a person or thing. A fancy way of saying “what’s around you.”

 

  1. Metafiction (N)-Fiction in which the author self-consciously alludes to the artificiality of a work by parodying or departing from normal/traditional narrative techniques.

 

  1. Ostensible (A)-Outwardly appearing to be true, but sometimes hiding a different motive or meaning.

I am not be 100% positive, but based upon all that I have read, the ostensible reason for the company’s demise was not the quality of their product but the negative culture that the employees had to put up with every day in the workplace.

 

  1. Sanguine (A)- Cheerfully optimistic, displaying a positive attitude

 

  1. Charlatan (N)-Someone who lies and claims a special talent, skill, or expertise.

 

  1. Incipient (A)-Beginning to appear or develop; at an early stage of formation

  2. Obsequious (A)-Showing servile obedience and an eagerness to please.

  3. Didactic (A)-Inteded for instruction, inclined to teach or lecture

  4. Cajole (V)-To persuade by flattery, promises, humor

  5. Gregarious (A)-Fond of the company of others, sociable and outgoing

  6. Hegemony (N)-Leadership or predominant influence exercised by one nation or entity over another--usually used in the national sense

 

  1. Paucity (N)-Smallness of number; scarcity; insignificance of amount

 

  1. Propriety (N)-Socially acceptable behavior and speech

 

  1. Abomination(N)– sources of utter disgust or intense dislike; hateful, disgusting actions

 

  1. Intimation (N)-A hint or suggestion

 

  1. Subservient (A)– servile; demeaning manner of one’s behavior in relation to someone superior

 

  1. Calumny (N)- the act of uttering false charges or misrepresentations maliciously calculated to damage another’s reputation

  2. Spurious (A)-Not what it is reported to be; fake or false

  1. Junta (N)-A military or political group that rules a country after taking power

  2. Licentious (A)-Promiscuous and unprincipled in sexual matters.

  3. Inculcate (V)-To implant or learn by repetition

  4. Yeoman (A)-Performed, accomplished in a loyal, valiant, useful or workmanlike manner.

  5. Contiguous (A)-Touching along a boundary, point, or border.
