The respiratory system : brings oxygen into your body and helps to remove carbon dioxide.  

Main structures of the system and what it does

Nose : filters, moistens, and warms air 

Pharynx, or throat : serves as a passageway for air and food

Trachea, or windpipe : carry air in and out of the lungs

Bronchi, or two large tubes that lead to the lungs : distribute air throughout the lungs until reaching the alveoli



The circulatory system : transports substances like oxygen and nutrients throughout the body while removing wastes from tissues

  • Blood flows through the circulatory system in blood vessels

  1. Arteris : Large, thick wall : Carries blood away from heart to tissues

  2. Capillaries : Small, thin wall : Allow substances to pass from the blood to tissues

  3. Veins : Small, thin wall : Returns blood to heart to prevent backflow



Disease

  • Circulatory system diseases affect your heart and blood vessels and make it harder for blood to flow throughout your body.


The lymphatic system : manages fluid levels in the body. Involves a network of delicate tubes that drains lymph that has leaked from blood into tissues. It is emptied back into the bloodstream through nodes.
