LESSON TWO - PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
A physical property is a characteristic of matter that can be observed or measured without changing the identity of the matter.
Some physical properties depend on the size or amount of matter. And they are called size dependent properties.
Mass is the amount of matter in an object. Mass does not change with location.
Volume is a size dependent property. Volume is the amount of space something takes up.
Size independent properties are physical properties that do not depend on the size or amount of matter
The temperature at which a substance changes from a solid to liquid is its melting point.
The temperature at which a substance changes from a liquid to gas is its melting point.
Density is the mass per unit volume of a substance. Formula: mass divided by volume
Electrical conductivity is the ability of matter to conduct an electric current.
Thermal conductivity is the ability of a material to conduct thermal energy.
Solubility is the ability of one substance to dissolve in another.
