Culturing Microorganisms

Nutrient broth is culture contains all nutrients bacteria need to divide

Agar gel plate contains nutrient broth turned into a gel which is poured into a petri dish we can see the cultures grow in a petri dish

  1. Kill any unwanted microorganism by sterilising all petri dishes nutrient broth and agar
  2. Sterilise inoculating loop by passing it through a Bunsen burner flame and then transfer the bacteria into the petri dish with inoculating loop
  3. Tape the lid onto petri dish to stop unwanted microorganisms getting in
  4. Place agar plate upside down in an incubator to stop moisture dripping down into the bacteria
  5. Incubate at 25 C reducing the chance of harmful bacteria to grow
